Welcome to our class! We are looking forward to a fantastic year of learning and growing through play. As partners in this journey we look forward to working not only with your child but also with you.
Here is some basic information about our program that we hope will be helpful.
School hours: Our Morning Class is from 8:45-11:30 and our Afternoon Class is from 12:45-3:30. Children may be dropped off at car pool or at the outer classroom door. Please refrain from entering the classroom during drop off and pick up unless absolutely necessary. Too many adults in the classroom can cause some young children to feel overwhelmed.
Please remember the importance of routine and consistent expectations for your child. A predictable routine provides your child with stability and a greater understanding of his/her environment. At school we focus on routine, structure, and the development of independence. While your child is at school, he/she will begin to take control of his/her environment by unpacking materials, walking through the hallways with as minimal support necessary for safety, participating in cleaning up after themselves and caring for the classroom community, sitting at tables during eating and classroom tasks with their friends and the preschool staff, following routines set in place, plus many others. We are working on helping your child become independent. We want school to be a fun place to learn and grow.
Parents should not enter the classroom during pick up and drop offs unless they are volunteering in the classroom. Too many adults in the room is disruptive and overwhelming for the children.
If your child will be out please call or e-mail us as soon as possible so that we don’t worry.
Lunch/Snack: Our Morning Class eats lunch at 11:00. Students may bring a bagged lunch or purchase a school lunch. All ll lunch boxes should be well marked with your child's name. According to Wake County policy, student food may not come in direct contact with classroom table. Please provide a surface for your child to use such as a napkin, inside the lunch box or a small disposable plate.
Personal belongings: Students will need a backpack and a change of clothes. Messy play (painting, sand, water and outside play ) is an important part of a preschool day. Children should be dressed in clothes and shoes that allow for fun, exploratory play both inside the classroom and outside. Any diapering needs ( wipes, diapers ) must also be provided. All personal belongings should be labeled (backpacks, jackets, sweaters, extra clothes, etc.). Please do not allow your child to bring toys to school they may get lost or broken.
Transportation: Wake County Transportation is available to all preschool children to and from home. Alternative addresses (such a day care or babysitter) must be approved by Wake County Special Transportation. If you would like to access transportation, please let me know and allow for up to 2 weeks for the transportation to be put in place. *Transportation has been highly unreliable this school year. Parents should have alternative arrangements prepared when transportation is more than 1 hour late or has been canceled.
Medications: Medications must be taken to the office with proper authorization (1702 Drs. form). They will be kept in a secure location. Medications may never be stored in student backpacks. We cannot give students medication in the classroom unless approved by the office.
Clothing
Playing is an important part of Preschool. Please dress your child appropriately for the weather as well as using messy classroom materials such as paint, water and sand. It is essential that your child wear foot wear that allows them to run and play safely.
